Our rock fishing safety fact sheets have been created for our diverse multilingual communities with the support of our Multicultural Advisory Group and with the help of the communities they are created for.

Preparing & packing for a safe day of rock fishing.

These fact sheets focus on three key components of rock fishing safety; Preparing for a safe rock fishing day at home, packing for a safe rock fishing day and the actions we can take while rock fishing to stay safe. Our key message for our multicultural communities is "Rock Fishing Safety Starts at Home" and this is the message we are aiming to promote with these fact sheets.

The first page of our fact sheet promotes the use of the Beachsafe app & Bom.gov.au to research the rock fishing spot and the conditions prior to leaving home. This allows an opportunity to ensure that the tides, swell, winds and the overall fishing spot conditions are all safe.

We also discuss packing for the beach and emphasise safe choices in what to take along with responsible decision making to ensure the safety of all those intending to enjoy rock fishing that day.

Enjoying a safe rock fishing experience.

While we acknowledge that one of the most crucial aspects to rock fishing safety is preparation and reserach before you even leave home - there are many things that individuals can do once they are at the rock fishing area to ensure a safe and fun day,

The second page of our fact sheet focuses on the actions we can take to stay safe while rock fishing.

We promote the proactive observation of the rock fishing area for at least 20 minutes prior to fishing, the viewing of nearby rock fishing safety signs & rescue devices and planning a safe way to get out in case you get washed in.

In the event that you see someone who is washed in the ocean, DO NOT jump in - throwing them something to hold onto, and getting help by calling triple zero (000). Always make sure you know your exact location.
