Rock Fishing Project 2025
Education Saves Lives
Rock fishing is one of the most popular recreational activities in New South Wales, but also one of the most dangerous in Australia, with a high risk of injury and drowning. According to Surf Life Saving Australia's Coastal Safety Brief - Fishing 2023, 70% of rock fishers who died were not wearing life jackets. Despite the risks, many prioritise fishing conditions over safety, and 46% choose not to wear life jackets.

This project aims to change this by increasing awareness, promoting safer fishing practices, and encouraging the use of life jackets among rock fishers, particularly in high-risk communities.
This Rock Fishing Project is supported by the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
