Jenni's Beach Adventure Journal

Friday the 11th of February, 2022 . . . Coastal Beaches, Northern NSW
Do you know why you SHOULD NOT swim at a deserted beach? Let's take the quiz to learn why:
There are no lifeguards or lifesavers on duty . . . that's right! If you go for a swim at an unpatrolled beach who is going to save you????
There are no red and yellow flags . . . that's right! We all know that the safest place to swim is at a patrolled beach between the red and yellow flags. Why? Because lifesavers place the flags where it is safe to swim, and they will be watching this area and will help if you need assistance.
Because there is no one there to help you if you get in trouble in the water or on the beach . . . What if you got caught in a rip current or got stung by a blue bottle or if there are other hazards on the beach that you don't even see . . maybe even a shark!
If you are taking a walk along the beach like I often do, you can enjoy it but do not jump in the water. Instead, you can do some exploring and you may come across some cool things washed up on the beach like I have.

Can you spot the rip in this photo? Most people (other than trained lifesavers & lifeguards) can't see them either.

Does this look safe to swim? Maybe you say yes but WHERE ARE THE RED & YELLOW FLAG? So thats a no...no swimming!

Could you swim here? Yes, you could as it does look pretty and the water is flat but are you experienced enough to know what hazards are there? Sharks, rips, bluebottles...So the answer again is NO!

Remember...not every beach in Australia is patrolled. If there are no red & yellow flags on the beach, this means there are no lifeguards/lifesavers on duty and swimming at the beach is not recommended, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area and have limited swimming ability or experience.
