Gone Fishing @ Port Stephens
It was nice to escape from rainy Sydney for another amazing Gone Fishing event in Port Stephens on Saturday 29th April 2023.
Port Stephens is a well-known tourist destination and is filled with visitors enjoying activities such as camel rides and sandboarding and of course rock fishing!
This session was held in a stunning location at the Birubi Point Surf Lifesaving Club with their dedicated surf lifesavers jumping into the water for the afternoon Rock Fishing Safety demonstrations for participants.
The event started with a workshop by experienced presenters from our partner organisations and experts from DPI, Maritime NSW, Team Kingies, Spyros Vasiliades from the Australian Land Based Anglers Association, experienced fisherman Amr Sheiba and surf lifesaver Anthony Turner.
In the afternoon, participants walked down to the beach to see a Rock Fishing safety demonstration by the Birubi Point Surf Lifesaving Club team while camels walked by in the background! The demonstration was also supported by the NSW Water Police Marine Area Command (MAC).
We hope all participants had a great time and now have the skills and knowledge on how to stay safe when they go rock fishing with their brand new lifejacket!
