Shark Bay, Iluka, Northern NSW
On my morning walk today I found this gorgeous sea turtle on the beach at Shark Bay, Iluka. I'm pretty sure it was not well, especially with the warmer waters pushing the population of sea turtles south with some of them becoming sick. Would you know what to do if you came across a sea turtle?
I contacted the local National Parks who told me that it is a Green Sea Turtle. They rescued it and took it to the Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue in Ballina for rehabilitation. If you ever find one in distress or sick contact an authority such as a Wildlife Sancturary and they will come to the rescue.
Marine turtles have roamed the world’s oceans for more than 100 million years and are an integral part of our tropical coastal ecosystems. Unfortunately, they are now considered endangered or vulnerable. I'm so happy I found this one and hopefully it will make a full recovery.
Check out these cute baby sea turtles being released at Woody Head, Iluka. Just around the corner from where I found our sea turtle.
