Jenni's Beach Adventure Journal

Tuesday the 1st of February, 2022 . . . Bluff Beach, Northern NSW
If you explore rock pools you can find some amazing sea creatures. In particular lots and lots of crabs. I found this Purple Shore Crab.
I did some research and found out that these cuties are often sighted along rocky coasts, especially those exposed to strong surf. Which is where I found mine!
They prefer these rocky coastlines as hiding places are plentiful and they do not burrow in sand like many other crabs. They watched me inquisitively from the safety of the crevices as I sneaked in to take their photo!

Aren't they pretty with their purple colouring? This cutie let me take its photo.

Journal Photo 2

They use their claws to tear apart dead fishes and rotting seaweed with an adult crab growing to approximately 80 millimetres in the carapace (shell) width.

If you look closely, you can see some "ghost crabs" hiding from me under this rock..lol
