I had no idea what this creature was when I came across it washed up on the beach. Nature really is amazing... and this fascinating puffer fish proves it!
To scare aware predator's, puffer fish can blow themselves up to 3 times their normal size! But it's not like a balloon because it's not air inside them, it is water! They are so smart that they take a big mouthful of water and pump it down to their stomach.
As a big, spiny ball they float around the ocean, scaring off predators and if blowing up doesn't scare them, then they can use their poisonous spines to deter being eaten. So, if you see one on the beach DON'T TOUCH IT, their poison is very, very dangerous.
It also has beak-like teeth which it will use to attack other animals if it is threatened. What a fascinating fish! Watch this cool video.
